Kat Scrappiness Instagram Hop – Sea Scene Birthday Card

It’s always a great idea to have some backup birthday cards in your stash. For today’s card, I used my Kat Scrappiness Friends Under the Sea Stamp Set to create a fun, birthday scene card.

I created the water background by watercolor painting with Tim Holtz Distress Oxides Inks – Chipped Sapphire and Prize Ribbon.  First, I wet the smooth side of a precut piece of watercolor paper. Next, I use a few drops of ink from my Prize Ribbon Distress Oxide Ink Refill bottle on my glass mat and add a few drops of water to thin it out. Then, I paint the color in a fan like pattern from the bottom up, stopping before the top. Next, I repeat the process with Chipped Sapphire but stopping halfway. If needed, I go back and add some more Prize Ribbon Distress Oxide Ink in a more watered-down concentration to help the water look smoother. If I get too much at the top, I lift it with a clean corner of a paper towel or rag. You need to try and preserve the lightness of the light ray pattern while it is wet.

All images were colored using Copic alcohol ink markers.
