Hello all, Crew Member Deborah Hellman here to share with you my newest mermaid card using the Finned Friends and Rare & Extraordinary Stamp Sets. Today happens to be my birthday, and I thought this “mer-tastic” encouragement card would be perfect for today!

First, I created a quick watercolor ocean background using Chipped Sapphire, Blueprint Sketch, and Prize Ribbon Distress Oxides. I stamp the ink pad onto my glass desktop, spritz with water, and paint with the diluted dye inks. I purposely left some lighter streaks at the top to represent sunlight shining through the water.
Next, I trimmed the watercolor paper down to 4 x 5¼ and mounted it on a piece of 4¼ x 5½ black cardstock. I then added two ripped pieces of craft paper to the bottom to represent the ocean bottom.

Before I began coloring my printed images from Finned Friends, I browsed the internet for pictures of Koi fish for inspiration. I decided that I wanted to use a mixed Koi pattern with lots of orange and a mix of blues. I used Copic markers to color my images (colors listed below).
After coloring my mermaid and fish, I wanted some additional background images. So, I stamped a couple of sea plants from the Rare & Extraordinary Stamp Set to complete my card. I just love how she came out and I hope you do too. I’d love to see how you color your mermaid or merman scene.
